I can just see God smiling as he thinks of you. Like everyone, you probably have needs in your life… Money, kids to behave, your husband to quit being a knuckle head…maybe something more serious, like a health issue. God says he knows what we need before we even ask.
If he knows what we need, then why don’t we have it?
First off, God is more than a vending machine…put in a scripture or some money in the basket (does anyone use plates anymore) and voila, out comes your provision. I’ve seen many that have that paradigm of faith. “God, you owe me!” Have you ever felt yourself thinking or feeling this? I’ve heard people actually say, “why should I follow God if this is how it’s going to be”.
The point is so far missed with this kind of thinking. That places your relationship with God in the realm of performance. If you’re conditioned (by church) to believe that you have to do anything to get something from God, then you’re trying to pay for it or deserve it by your own effort.
Not only does God know what you need, he desires to give it to you…abundantly above what you can even imagine. I have a pretty big imagination. God’s idea of provision is pretty BIG too…he made an entire planet for 2 people. I’d say that’s pretty abundant.
In Matthew 6, Jesus is speaking of provision in regard to his Kingdom. He says to seek his Kingdom first and we’ll have everything we need. The Kingdom is to be sought, but not from the position of what you have to do to find it or qualify for it, it has more to do with coming to know your place in it.
Notice what Jesus ties provision to…
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and {yet} your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?
WORTH…VALUE
God provides because he values you, not because of what you do. In fact, he makes it clear that even the birds don’t have to strive and save up to have what they need. When’s the last time you heard a flower freaking out because it couldn’t pay a bill or it’s kids wouldn’t listen? When’s the last time you saw a Bird going to the bank to check their savings account?
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is {alive} today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, {will He} not much more {clothe} you?
Jesus teaches us that God desires to meet our needs because we’re valuable to our Heavenly Father…do you feel valuable? If seeking the Kingdom sounds like the condition of God meeting your needs or you’re rewarded with stuff after seeking the Kingdom, you’re trying to work for it and even the flowers don’t have to do that. Seeking the Kingdom is about discovering your place in the Kingdom and resting in your new identity, within God’s family…where all needs are ALREADY met and all the promises are YES.
The secret of provision from God is that he’s already given you everything, it’s right inside of you waiting to manifest.
You may be thinking that this is just talking about food and clothing, but remember, God desires abundantly above what we can ask or think, and the planet for 2 people thing.
The question is, do you feel worthy simply because you’re a child of God, or are you trying to qualify for what you think God owes you. Your heart will not allow you to consistently receive from God what it feels you don’t deserve.
We are no longer servants, we are now children. Get out of your externally focused, performance minded brain and look within your heart, out of which flow the wellsprings of life. The Kingdom of God is within. Allow the Holy Spirit to teach you to release Kingdom benefits into your life.
If we don’t see ourselves as priceless in God’s eyes, I wonder how much value we’ll have for other people. You know, those ones that cut you off in traffic, the ones that you’re afraid to come around your kids, the people that have hurt you …maybe even those who deserve to be hated for some heinous crime they committed. How valuable are those people to us?
We know how valuable they are to God, he died for them too. He desires the best for their lives too. So often we want our blessing even if it comes at the expense of others. “I’m going to get mine” attitude prevails in our society…. and churches, at times. If your idea of favor from God is that he picks you to bless over someone else, you’ve forgotten that he’s not a respecter of persons. We don’t get what we deserve. It rains on the just and unjust. God’s not sovereignly deciding who to bless and who to curse, or let slip into lack.
We play the part of God and sit in the judgment seat of who deserves what. God says don’t judge…period. We know people by their fruit but does fruit determine worth? Fruit is indication of what’s going on between e person and God, in their hearts, but it in no way gives us a right to determine if that person is worth loving.
This is starting like one of the 2 commandments Jesus gave us. Love people as we want to be loved. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.
It’s great and wonderful to be immersed in how valuable you are to God, but don’t stop there. Let that spill out onto those around you, even the people you don’t like. Then watch the unconditional love of God work miracles.
